How to Remove Desktop Hijacker

Desktop Hijacker is a Trojan virus that changes the desktop wallpaper on your computer to a spyware warning message. In some variations of the virus, it may also download other spyware and viruses to your computer. The Desktop Hijacker displays a message on your computer's background wallpaper stating that your computer is infected and you need to download "Privacy Protection Software Now." If you visit the suggested website and download the "fix," your computer will become further infected by additional viruses and malware. Removing Desktop Hijacker requires use of specialized software to remove the virus from your computer.

Instructions

      Download and install the Adware Away application (see link in Resources). After installation, open Adware Away.

      Select "Scan" in Adware Away to conduct a full scan of your computer's local drives for the Desktop Hijacker virus. Select the "Next" button after the virus scan is complete to view the infected files on your computer.

      Choose "Specialized Remover" on the left side of the Adware Away application and click "Next" at the bottom of the screen. When the removal process is complete, exit Adware Away and restart your computer. The Desktop Hijacker virus will be removed, and you will be able to reset your wallpaper on the computer.
