How to Identify Kathe Kruse Dolls

Kathe Kruse created a collection of children's toys and dolls throughout Europe. For more than 125 years, these dolls have become very popular because of their use of natural materials such as cotton, linen and fleece. Since these dolls are completely baby safe, parents feel very confident in allowing their child to play and sleep with them. To identify the Kathe Kruse dolls, follow the steps below.

Instructions

    • 1

Feel the material of the clothing the doll wears. Most of the clothes will be made out of cotton and will feel very soft. This will prevent any irritation to a child's skin when they hold the doll tight to their body. The doll's clothes can be hand washed using Woolite.

    • 2

Notice the Kathy Kruse dolls' faces. They are all hand embroidered or hand painted. Each one is made by hand, so they are all different.

    • 3

Bend the doll's arms. Many are made to be bent. They will have hemp rope under the clothes of the arms and sometimes the legs as well for easy movability.

    • 4

Hold the head of the doll. Notice that the head isn't limp, but is not hard either. The heads of Kathe Kruse dolls are filled with lamb's wool to help keep that soft squeezable feel.

    • 5

Recognize the simplicity of the dolls. Most of the Kathe Kruse dolls will have very basic eyebrows, eyes, mouth and nose. If it is a baby doll, there will be no eyebrows or nose. There are also slight red cheeks.

Tips & Warnings

  • Kathe Kruse dolls are best known for the soft material they are made of and their baby-safe quality.
