Hanging framed photographs, paintings, posters and other pictures in collage form is an easy way to add artistic interest to a wall. A collage by definition is a collection of items arranged in an interesting and often unusual way, so you don't need to worry about measuring and leveling your pictures to be precisely positioned. The beauty of a collage is its unique composition. To keep your collage from simply being a mishmash of objects, however, you should have one common factor throughout the collage.

Things You'll Need:

  • Framed pictures
  • Stick-on saw-toothed picture hangers
  1. Step 1

Decide on the common factor that will tie your collage together. Consider using only frames in one shade of a particular color, such as hues of red that run the gamut from pink to scarlet. You also could make a theme your common factor. This could mean hanging pictures of your family at the beach as well as travel company posters advertising tropical vacations.

  2. Step 2

Place all pictures in frames if they are not framed already. Use a variety of mats in the frames, and leave some pictures without mats to add visual interest.

  3. Step 3

Lay all your picture on the floor or a large table. Arrange them so that sizes and colors are mixed throughout the entire layout. Rearrange them until you are happy with the result.

  4. Step 4

Stick a picture hanger onto the wall where you want the center of your collage to be. Hang the picture from the center of your arrangement on that hook. Working from the center out, stick picture hangers on the wall, hanging each picture before placing another hanger.
