How to Convert DVD RAM to DVD

DVD RAM is a file type that most popular DVD recorders, including LG and Panasonic, record in. DVD RAM files have some major compatibility issues, though, when it comes to standard DVD players, which means that the DVDs recorded on your DVD recorder will likely not work in your regular DVD player. If you want to use a DVD RAM file as a standard DVD file, you will need to convert it first.

Instructions

    • 1

Download TMPGEnc DVD Author. TMPGEnc DVD Author converts RAM to many file types, including DVD. Follow the prompts to install the program onto your computer (see Resources).

    • 2

Select a project size. Click on "Options" and select "Environmental Settings." Choose either 4.7GB or 8.5GB under "DVD Capacity." These are the two standard sizes of writable DVDs. Your blank DVD should have the size listed directly on it. Click "OK."

    • 3

Click "Create New Project." It will appear in the "Project Menu" area on the right side of window. This will take you to the "Source setup" window.

    • 4

Add your RAM file. The "Add DVD Video" button is located on the right side of the screen. Browse for the DVD-RAM drive on your computer. Select "DVD-RTAV" and click "OK." A window will appear that shows the DVD-RAM disc files.

    • 5

Select the file that you want to convert to DVD and click "Next." Click in the box next to "Copy clip Video Data to HDD," browse for a folder where you would like the file to save and click "OK." How long it will take to copy this file depends on the speed of your computer. A window will come up to track the progress. When the copy is complete, a new screen will come up. Click "OK." You will return to the "Source Setup" window.

    • 6

Add more RAM files to be converted. This is done in the same way as the original file.

    • 7

Click on "Output" at the top of the screen. This will bring up the "Output Settings" screen. Make sure that "Create DVD Folder" is checked. Click "Begin Output." Your files will now be in DVD format and can be burned to a DVD-R, which should work with your standard DVD player.
