How to Convert WMV Files to MPEG Format
WMV is a file extension that stands for "Windows Media Video." This means that the file extension itself is owned by Microsoft. WMV files are video files, and were designed for the Windows Media player program. An "MPEG" is another type of video file, often a much simpler one. There are some types of video players that will not be able to play WMV files. So, in order to play a WMV video on a player that isn't compatible with that file type, you will have to convert it to a compatible type, such as MPEG.

Download a conversion program that can switch your video's file type from WMV to MPEG. Format Factory is an example of such a program.

Activate the installation file that should now be on your desktop by double-clicking on it.

Start the program after it's installed by going to "Start," "All Programs," and then "Format Factory."

Click on the "Video" tab, then click the "all to MPG" button. A new window will appear. Click on the "Add File" button, which will let you browse your computer for the WMV file you wish to convert. Double-click on the file once you've found it.

Select "OK" to add the file transfer process to the main program window. Click the "Start" button to begin the conversion to MPEG.
