How to Cut an Onion Without Crying Using Contact Lenses

Onions have been giving people area hard time to cut because of the chemical that irritates the eye. The most sensitive part of the eye is the cornea which has many, many nerve endings. To stop crying while cutting onions, you must block the onion irritant from touching the cornea. Continue to read this article to learn how to stop onion tears while using your contact lenses.

  1. Step 1
     

    Contact lenses are a medical device therefore a doctor must prescribe them to you. If you don't have contact lenses, you would need to get an eye exam with an eye doctor such as an optometrist.

  2. Step 2
     

    Once you have your contact lenses, put them on. Remember to wash your hands first before putting on your contact lenses. Do not touch anything especially the cut onions before putting on the contact lenses. Touching anything will defeat the purposes of preventing tears because dirty hands can cause tears from the irritants.

  3. Step 3

    Cut the onions. While cutting the onions you'll notice that the pain of cutting onions has either diminished or disappeared.

  4. Step 4

    After you've finished wearing the contact lenses that day remove them. Properly rub and clean them to remove any onion chemicals that may have gotten on the outside of the lens.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always wash your hands before inserting contact lenses.
  • Never touch your eyes after you've touched onions.
  • Always follow your eye doctor's instructions on how to care for your contact lenses.
  • Only wear contact lenses that have been prescribed to you.
