Reality TV shows make light of bridezillas, but the fact of the matter is that no one wants to be around them. Bridezillas act like narcissistic spoiled brats. They think they are princesses and that everyone should bow to their every whim, but in point of fact, they should not be indulged and no one should allow them to get away with their terrible behavior. If you are planning your wedding and your are determined not to become a bridezilla (and alienate everyone you love in the process), please read this article for a step by step plan about how to avoid becoming one.

Things You'll Need:

  • a positive attitude
  • gratitude
  • self control
  1. Step 1

Your first step is to promise yourself that you will not treat the people you love like garbage just because your wedding is “your big day.” Give yourself your word that you will behave yourself and you will act incredibly grateful and appreciative.

  2. Step 2

The next step is to make a similar promise to someone you love, such as your mother or your sister. Tell them you have made this vow to yourself and you intend to honor it. Give them permission to call you out on your bad behavior if you do misbehave and slip into bridezilla mode.

  3. Step 3

This third step is key: If or when you are called out on any bad or bridezilla-like behavior by your bridesmaids (or your mother or your siblings), stop misbehaving right away and apologize. This is not a matter of swallowing your pride. It is simply a matter of behaving like a mature grown up who is filled with gratitude.

  4. Step 4

Speaking of gratitude, the final step is to smile and give your warmest thanks to everyone who is helping you to create your wedding: your wedding planner, your wedding florist, your wedding photographer, your caterer, your band or DJ, and all of your other vendors. But don’t just say thank you verbally, be sure to send all of them thank you notes after the wedding, just as you will be sending thank you notes to all of your guests for their wedding gifts.

Tips & Warnings
  • You want to enjoy your wedding! It is one of the most important days of your life. There is no valid reason to spoil it with bad, bratty or bridezilla-like behavior. You are in control of your own behavior, and you are responsible for creating your own memories of your wedding, so do everything in your power to make those memories positive ones.
