Things You'll Need:
- A guitar
-
Step 1
Use this tool: http://www.gieson.com/Library/projects/utilities/tuner/ to hear the desired pitch. You can also use a pitch pipe or tuning fork if you have one, though pretty soon you'll be tuning by ear so you shouldn't have to buy anything.
-
Step 2
If you're feeling ambitious, you can memorize each of those tones through repetition. However, it is easier to just get a feel for the low E. Tune your sixth (the thickest) string to it.
-
Step 3
For the 5th string, put your finger on the 5th fret of the 6th string. Make the 5th string the same pitch as the 6th string using the tuning knobs. Continue doing this: for the 4th string, 5th fret on the 5th string. For the 3rd string, 5th fret on the 4th string. When you tune the 3rd string, put your finger on the 4th fret, NOT the 5th fret, of the 3rd string. For the 1st string, 5th fret on 2nd string.
