Obtain the ripening agent. Get either an apple or a ripe tomato from your own pantry or from a neighbor. If borrowing it, you can let them know you'll return it unharmed the next day.

Find the right ripening container. You need a paper bag big enough to hold the bunch of bananas along with the tomato or apple, and to be able to close it completely. You can re-use this bag when the bananas have ripened.

Begin the procedure. Insert the bananas into the bag along with the apple or tomato, find a way to close the bag, and leave it at room temperature overnight. Bananas should be ripe by the next day.

When you want to save perfectly ripe bananas for later, they can be refrigerated to extend their life. The skins will turn black and ugly, but the fruit remains fine.
