It is easy to convert a short wooden stepladder into stylish shelving for your plants or books.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Remove the folding metal spreader that holds the front and back legs of the ladder together. Now, position the ladder's back legs upright against the wall and attach two 1 x 2 cleats to secure the distance between the front and back legs. Position the cleats so their tops are even with the top of the rung. Cleat is a ladder crosspiece or rectangular cross section placed on an edge, which a person may step on while going up and down a ladder.

  2. Step 2

Each shelf will be supported at the front by a rung that is already there. To support the back of each shelf, secure a cleat between the back legs, putting it at the same level as the rung.

  3. Step 3

Cut plywood or boards to fit as shelves, and screw them to the rungs and cleats. Now screw the center most back cleat to the wall, and that will secure your shelving. Your display ladder is ready to use.
