        Purchase plastic pond

Start with a small to medium plastic pond. You can purchase these at any home improvement store or gardening store. There are many sizes, designs and depths to choose from. Also purchase a submergible pump and plastic tubing if necessary. Pick where in your garden or yard you would like to put your water feature.

        Level your ground.

Now you have two options, you can dig a hole big enough for your plastic pond or you can keep your pond above ground. Either way make sure the ground it sits on is level. We will be disguising the plastic.

        Fill with water

Fill with water and place a pump inside. Most pumps need an electrical outlet but you can find solar power pumps too. If your pump does more than just circulate the water then take the tube side that the pumped water comes out of and place it on the side of the pond you want your waterfall to be.

Rocks should have an over hang

Place rocks around the edge. Be sure to allow the rocks to lay an inch or two over the edge of the water feature for a natural look. For an above ground water feature you may need to spread the rocks out to form more of a mound to make it look more natural. Popular rocks are flagstone or river rock. Using rocks from your area will make your water feature blend better.

Be sure and place rocks around the top of your pumps tube so it looks like a natural waterfall. Do not place a rock directly on the tube as to stop the flow of water. Disguise any wires or tubes with rocks or bury them an inch or so under the soil.

    Tips & Warnings

    • You can include some rocks at the bottom of your water feature for a natural look. Include some garden statues if you want. Get creative!

    • Include plants around the outside border of the water feature to help the natural look. You can also try using water plants inside your water feature.

    • Animals can sometimes fall into the water. Place a stick or rock at an angle inside the water so that they have a way to crawl out. Using a natural object will keep it looking natural.
