How to Troubleshoot USB Issues
USB ports can cause problems for various reasons, but that doesn't mean the ports or the devices you are trying to plug into them are no longer functional. You can take steps to troubleshoot a USB problem and keep it from recurring.

Check your USB ports. Click "Start," "Control Panel," "System and Maintenance" and "Device Manager." Double-click "Universal Serial Bus controllers" to see all of your USB ports and their operating conditions. A yellow exclamation mark will appear on a port that is not working properly.

Update your USB drivers. USB, or Universal Serial Bus, controllers can become out of date. Sometimes the only USB troubleshoot necessary is a USB driver update. Check the device manufacturer's support website and locate and install the latest driver.

Run the Microsoft Fix It troubleshooter for hardware and devices. Go to support.Microsoft.com/fixit and type "USB" into the Filter Solutions search box above the large box labeled "3." Hit the Search icon. In the results, click "Run Now" next to Hardware Devices Are Not Working or Are Not Detected in Windows.
