How to Organize Your Kitchen With Breadboxes thumbnail
Some breadboxes have ornate decorations.

Breadboxes come in a wide range of types and styles, ranging from antique wood to sleek metal. The one feature that all breadboxes have in common, though, is the door or lid that shuts to preserve baked goods, protecting them from the air. However, these counter-top devices aren't only for bread; they're also used for organizing various sections of your kitchen. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Mount a breadbox to the wall, next to your kitchen door or place it on top of a kitchen cart or shelf near the door. Screw small hooks into the sides to use as key organizers. Use the box as a mail holder or sorter.

    • 2

Stack several breadboxes of the same type on top of one another. Use each one to store a specific item. For example, devote one to cooking spoons, one to measuring utensils and one to spatulas. Label the outside of the boxes by painting a picture of what they contain.

    • 3

Use a breadbox, instead of a standard rack, to store and organize spices. Line the spices up in the breadbox and close the container to keep them hidden from view.

    • 4

Place recipe cards or books into a breadbox. Keep them alphabetized for easy locating. Return each card or book to its exact spot to keep up with organization.

    • 5

Keep certain appliances in bread boxes. Some toasters, small food processors or electric can openers easily fit inside. Drill holes through the back of the box and run the electrical cords through to keep them plugged in.

    • 6

Keep your counter tops organized by placing any type of nonperishable items in the breadbox including snacks, small chip bags and peanut butter jars. The items will be out of the way, yet easily accessible when you need them.
