My RV

You were able to keep your RV rodent free during the winter storage. Now you are ready to spend a week at an RV campsite or taken your RV on the road and stop periodically. When you spend days at one location squirrels, mice, and flying pests are still going to try to make your RV their home. Here are suggestions to keep your RV rodent free.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

RV Maintenance - Get Rid of Rodents

The best rodent pest control is to prevent mice, squirrels, and other rodents from getting in to the RV. Since these pest only need a very small opening to get through, before you go on your RV trip look underneath for holes, open any basement compartments and see if there are any holes and use caulk or silicone to fill them. On the inside of the RV check around plumbing, drains, even the roof and close off anywhere you think a small rodent may be able to enter. If you see light coming through anywhere on your RV you should make sure the hole is sealed off.

  2. Step 2

    RV Pests - Squirrel Control

The red squirrel is a small rodent that can quickly enter your RV. They like warm and sheltered locations, such as your engine. As hard as that is to believe the squirrel can enter your RV through the engine and begin making a nest within the one week stay at Yellowstone National Park or any location where they is not a cement slab to park on at the campground. Place a trap in the engine compartment and any basement compartment that may stay ajar during your camping. Check the traps daily and remember to remove them before starting your RV.

  3. Step 3

    Protect RV with Mouse Control

To protect you RV from mice you could put moth balls in any lower compartment or, as an alternative, place dryer sheets in those areas. You could also line your drawers with dryer sheets. They help keep any musty smells from forming and deter mice. A mouse trap is also a suggestion but remember that you have them set so not to accidentally activate them.

  4. Step 4

Keep RVing Fun with Flying Pest Repellent

When you set up camp at the RV park spray insect repellent around your tires, inside all basement compartments, and around all doors. When you pull your awning out spray insect repellent on the top and bottom of that, also. Make sure not to spray directly on to the fabric. A fogger is another good investment and can be used early in the day, before you want to sit outside and enjoy the camping experience. There is another worse than trying to sit by the campfire and the bugs drive you inside.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you are camping make sure that your RV is not housing unwanted guests. Take precautions to protect your RV with rodent pest control before you leave on your trip and while you are enjoying your RV camping experience.

on 5/25/2009 Helpful info to know. I'd say staying in an RV is a step up from the old camping tents; would love to give it a try, rodents or no rodents. ha :) Thanks!
