    Setting Up a PC Microphone

  1. Step 1

Turn the tower of the computer around so you can see the back. Locate the input jack, which is pink or red; this is the microphone jack for your computer. Plug the microphone into this jack and turn your tower back around.

  2. Step 2

Click on the "Start" button, go to "All Programs," then click the title "Accessories." Locate the title "Entertainment" and click on it. Click the icon titled "Volume Control." Unclick any of the boxes that are labeled mute and turn up the volume on the microphone volume section.

  3. Step 3

Go back to the "Entertainment" menu and click the icon titled "Sound Recorder." Press the "Record" button, then speak into the microphone. If it works, you are set to go. If not, you need to go to "Sounds" and "Audio Devices" to set up the microphone, so proceed to the next step.

  4. Step 4

Click on the "Start" button at the bottom left corner of your toolbar and click the "Control Panel" section of the pop up. Click the icon or folder titled "Sounds" and "Audio Devices." Click the "Audio" tab at the top and click the drop-down menu. It features a list of recording drivers on your computer. Click on "Sound Max Audio" and click the "Apply" tab. Now are you are ready to start recording.
