How to Amplify Sound

The easiest way to amplify sound is to simply plug a microphone into an amplifier. If you don't happen to have electronic equipment lying around, however, you can use acoustic principles to amplify your sound source. By focusing the sound and removing objects that absorb sound waves, you can make even a quiet voice come through loud and clear.

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap a large piece of paper into a cone. You can use butcher block paper, newspaper or anything else handy. The small end should be slightly larger than your mouth when it is open and the big end should be 1 to 2 feet in diameter.

    • 2

Use tape to hold the cone together. Make sure that you tape it in into an even cone with no dents in it. You now have a megaphone.

    • 3

Arrange the room to minimize sound absorption. Remove rugs, upholstered chars and couches, tapestries and anything else plush. Move any big tables and other remaining items of furniture to the sides of the room.

    • 4

Put the small end of the megaphone at the sound source and aim the large end out into the room. The sound will be much louder for anyone listening in the room.
