Create a list of prospective firms. Visit their website and find out what kinds of features you receive by opening an account with them. Do you have access to credit card machines for your business? Will you receive anything free or do you have to pay? Evaluate the different companies and find out what the cost is of opening a merchant account with each. As you investigate, write down notes about each company so you'll remember the companies and what they offer.

Call each company and ask to speak with a representative. Ask the representative why you should choose their company. As he or she explains the different reasons you should choose their company as well as any features you may have not noticed on the website, write it down. This will be helpful for evaluating each company later. Find out how long each company has been in business and any other relevant information.

Compare the features with the prices you have on your list. Your goal is to find the merchant account which offers the most benefits and features for the lowest price. Remember to consider your own business and what needs you have when considering the features of the company. There's no point in going with a company that offers gas station credit card systems when you don't have a gas station, etc. Compare and create a short list by marking out companies you're no longer interested in.

Choose the best merchant account. When you've compared the different companies and what they offer, you're now ready to make a choice based on all of that information. Ensure that the company you go with is affordable, offers many different features, has been in business for more than 2 years and that you feel comfortable working with the company.
By using the steps above, you can find a great merchant account, even if you have bad credit.
