If there is truly one thing that could be singled out as wealth-robbing, it's credit card debt. Excessive credit card debt is most likely to lead you down a path of financial ruin. With sky-high interest rates and sometimes sketchy fees and lending practices, credit cards can be dangerous in the wrong hands. Eliminating credit card debt today is the best way to release your true wealth building potential. Here's how to get rid of credit card debt.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Intensity
  • A willingness to change your behavior
  1. Step 1

Stop spending money that you don't have by charging items on a credit card. In order to get out from heaping piles of debt, you need to quit spending money that you do not have. It's time to cut up those credit cards. Get a scissors and do it.

  2. Step 2

Establish a cash reserve fund in the bank to ensure that you do not need to use a credit card in the event of an emergency. Sell a large ticket item if you need. You need to get a cash reserve quickly, though.

  3. Step 3

Place all of your credit card bills in front of you. Organize them from smallest debt balance to largest. Or, if you prefer, organize them from smallest interest rate to largest.

  4. Step 4

Attack the lowest dollar amount (or highest interest rate card) with intensity never before seen. Now is the time to get an extra job, sell stuff or donate plasma. You need to attack the debt with authority. Meanwhile, pay the minimums on all of the other credit cards.

  5. Step 5

One the first card is paid off, move onto the second card with the same intensity. You'll now find that you have even more money to throw at that credit card because you're no longer paying on card number one. Repeat this process over and over until all balances are paid off.

Tips & Warnings
  • Feel free to contact your credit card company to see if they will work with you on payments or lower interest rates.
  • Pay cash from now on!
