When new computer programs are installed most automatically install a desktop shortcut. The desktop short cut icon makes it easier for the computer user to quickly get access to the program instead of going to the start menu and searching through all programs for the one wanted. If an installation did not set up the desk top shortcut icon here is how to set one up manually.

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Files
  1. Step 1

    Find the computer file that you want to place on your desktop. This can be just about any file that you have on your computer.

  2. Step 2

    Once you have located the file that you want to place on your desktop right click it with your mouse. A menu should pop up. Search for send to desktop (create a short cut icon). Click that link.

  3. Step 3

    Look on the desktop and you should see the new shortcut icon or desktop icon to the file displayed. Now, every time that a desk top icon is needed simply perform the same procedure and you will see the desktop icon displayed.
