How to Use a Background Picture in the Finder on a Mac

By default in the Mac OS X operating system, all Finder windows are displayed with a plain white background. However, through the Finder's viewing options, you can change the appearance of windows and even add a background picture that will appear behind all of your file and folder icons.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mac running OS X 10.5 or later
  1. Step 1

    Click on the Finder icon in the Dock to open a new Finder window.

  2. Step 2

    Go to the "View" menu at the top of the screen and choose "Show View Options."

  3. Step 3

    Click on the radio button next to "Picture" under the "Background" setting.

  4. Step 4

    Click on the "Select" button, then double-click on the picture that you want to use as your Finder background.

  5. Step 5

    Close the "View Options" window to save the settings.
