The cables behind your television that connect it to your DVD player or cable box are called component video cables. Overall, the make and formation are similar, but there are some minute differences.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check the thickness of the cable. Thicker is better. The thicker a cable is, the more power can flow through the wire and not generate heat and break down the wire or the insulation.

  2. Step 2

Check for connectors. Any connectors will work, but gold connectors tend to pass the power through the wires more efficiently than the silver-coated ones.

  3. Step 3

Find wires with low oxygen rating. This helps to prevent oxidation in the wire, which can corrode it over time. Higher end wire will label the oxygen rating. The cheaper stuff will not label it. For the average user, the oxygen rating isn't as big of an issue, but if you have a higher end television, you will definitely want to put in for a lower oxygen rating.
