Beaded napkin rings add sparkle and beauty to any table. They look incredibly complicated to make, but in reality they are quite simple and, if you make them yourself instead of purchasing them at a design and decor store, they are very inexpensive. To make a set of 8 napkin rings, you will probably need to spend an afternoon on your table decorations, but then you will be able to use and enjoy them for years to come. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Cut your cloth into eight strips. They should be about 18 inches long and half an inch to an inch wide. Use straight cuts, and make sure your snips are even so that you do not have ragged edges. If you want a more decorative edge, use pinking shears instead of scissors.
-
2
Wrap the PVC pipe pieces in the the cloth. You will need one cloth strip for every piece of pipe. Glue the end of the strip to the inside of the PVC pipe, then wrap it tightly and in partially overlapping stripes until you have covered the entire circumference of the pipe in the cloth. Trim off any excess cloth and glue the end to the inside of the PVC pipe. You may need to hold it in place for a minute or so while the glue sets. When you are done, you will have eight cloth napkin rings, and will be ready to bead.

3
Cut a length of elastic cord. Depending on how many lines of beads you want on your napkin rings, that length can be 2 1/2 inches or multiples thereof. You will need a length of cord for each napkin ring you make.
-
4
String the beads on the cord. You should only have as many beads as it takes to go around the edge of the PVC pipe, so about 1 3/4 inches of beads (or multiples of this if you want multiple lines of beads.)
-
5
Knot off the bead string so you have a loop. Use the excess elastic cord to make this loop secure.
-
6
Wrap the elastic loop of beads around the cloth napkin ring. The cloth will show through and around the beads. Make sure that the knot in the cord is underneath the napkin ring so that it is not visible.
-
7
Secure the beads to the napkin ring with craft glue. On the bottom of the napkin ring (where the knot in the cord is) place dots of glue underneath each line of beads. This will keep the cord from snapping off and will enable you to arrange the beads on the top either close together or spread out, as you like. Now, you are ready to decorate your one-of-a-kind table with your new beaded napkin rings.
