How to Build a Sliding Board
A skater or hockey player can build strength and endurance during the off season using a slide board. It's neither expensive nor difficult to make your own using materials you can find in a home supply store.
Things You'll Need

- Padding material
- Screws
- Heavy-duty stapler, two-sided carpet tape or strong adhesive
- Vinyl (optional)

1
Choose your base. The material you choose must have a smooth surface. Options include white board, laminated wood (used for counters), melamine-coated fiberboard (tileboard), formica or hardboard on plywood. The size doesn't need to be exact--anywhere from 2 to 4 feet wide and from 7 to 10 feet long. The bigger the person who will be using the board, the longer the board should be.

2
Cut two 2-by-4s as wide as your base for bumpers.

-
3
Attach foam rubber, carpeting or foam window insulating strips to one side of your bumpers for padding. You can staple vinyl on top for a more finished look.
-
4
Screw the bumpers to the ends of the base with the padded sides in.
-
5
Use car wax or floor polish to create a really slippery surface.
-
6
Wear nylon booties or felt boot liners for low resistance when sliding.
