How to Make a Ceramic Napkin Holder
Cloth napkins and special napkin holders that match your table decor are still the perfect final touch to your holiday (or other special occasion) meal. Although you can make napkin holders out of just about anything, ceramic napkin holders are more formal and, unlike silver or silver plate, never need polishing.
Making you own ceramic napkin holders guarantees that they will match your special tablecloths and dinnerware. You can make more than one set for any occasion.

1
Glaze pre-made napkin holders. Check the yellow pages and see if there is a ceramics studio in your town. Chances are they have -- or can order -- "greenware" (not-fired pottery) napkin holders in a variety of styles. Spend an afternoon glazing them in your choice of color (the studio will have an assortment of glazes), and the studio will even fire them for you in its kiln.

2
Shape your own napkin holders. If you're truly feeling creative, shape your own. The ceramics studio may have raw clay available for client use, or might be able to connect you with a local potter who has clay to sell. Once you've shaped your own napkin holders from scratch, the ceramics studio should be able to help you glaze and fire them.

Get the kids involved. Fancy table decor can also become precious heirlooms if your kids help you shape and/or glaze the ceramic napkin holders. The final product may not be perfect, but you'll cherish them for years because not only do they hold napkins, they hold memories.
