How to Latch Hook a Hair Weave

Using a latch hook to put in a weave allows you the ease of using loose hair for a weave. It's an alternate method to sewing in a track weave and allows you to have a beautiful head of long hair. Putting in a weave with a latch hook is very similar in technique to creating a latch hook rug. Make sure to have a friend on hand to help you. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Wash your hair at most a day before putting in your weave. Slightly dirty hair works best for a weave.

    • 2

Have a friend put your hair in cornrows. You can either do this in straight horizontal lines or with concentric circles. Tie off your cornrows and tie off your ends.

    • 3

Have your friend push your latch hook through from under the cornrow you created.

    • 4

Separate your loose hair into small sections, fold the strand in half and place a section onto your latch hook. If your weave hair comes in a track or sewn together, cut off the sewn edge.

    • 5

Lock your latch hook, and pull half of the strand through the cornrow.

    • 6

Take your two strands and tie them into a knot to keep your weave strand in place. Some methods may also use glue, but that can become messy.

    • 7

Do this for your entire head, working across the braids or in a concentric circle, depending on how you braided them in Step 2.

Tips & Warnings

  • When buying hair, try to purchase 100 percent human hair if at all possible. Synthetic hair will not keep as well or look as good as human hair. See the Resources for a few vendors.
