This article is on how to install a mouse on your PC computer.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • mouse
  • software (if your mouse came with a disk)
  • a PC computer
  1. Step 1

Open the package (if applicable) and determine what type of mouse you have. A USB, PS/2, or a serial mouse. A Serial mouse is an older type that has a connector shaped like a trapezoid. A USB mouse has a flat USB connector. A PS/2 Mouse has a round connector.

  2. Step 2

Plug the mouse into the appropriate plug on your computer, the plug will be the same shape as the mouse. If it doesn't fit easily, try turning it (PS/2) or flipping the connector (USB & Serial)

  3. Step 3

Windows XP and Vista should automatically detect your mouse and find software for it. If your mouse came with software, use the install software button on the hardware installation wizard, otherwise put the disk into the appropriate drive and install the software manually. You may have to restart your computer and then your mouse should function properly.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be careful when plugging a mouse in. The pins inside the connectors can be easily bent, making the mouse not work properly.
