Forget about those little packets of taco seasoning that you buy from the store. You can very easily and quickly make your own tasty taco seasoning. Best of all you can adjust it according to your own tastes and you can avoid all of the fillers, preservatives, and excess salt that are often found in commercial mixes.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 Tbl. chili powder
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. onion powder
  • 1/4 - 1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp. paprika
  • 1 1/2 tsp. ground cumin
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 - 1 tsp. black pepper
  1. Step 1

Place all ingredients in a small covered container and mix well.

  2. Step 2

Brown one pound of ground beef and drain if necessary. You could also use ground turkey, ground chicken, cubed or shredded chicken, beef, pork, or whatever kind of meat you prefer. Use what you like and be creative!

  3. Step 3

Sprinkle the taco seasoning mixture on top of your cooked meat and add about 1/2 cup of water.

  4. Step 4

Mix well and continue cooking and stirring occasionally until most of the water has evaporated.

  5. Step 5

Enjoy your seasoned meat in tacos, burritos, fajitas, enchiladas, chili, chicken tortilla soup, or quesadillas. Use this seasoning in any dish that needs a little kick.

Tips & Warnings
  • This recipe makes enough to season one pound of meat.
  • I like to mix my seasoning up in one of those little 1/2 cup Ziploc disposable bowls, that way I can just throw in the seasoning then use the bowl to measure the water. Just a quick little trick I use. :)
