Take Your Class on a Sushi Field Trip

Each year, during my "Japan" thematic unit, I take the kids on a sushi field trip. Follow my steps to ensuring that your sushi field trip is fun and easy for everyone.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find a local sushi bar that will allow you to bring your class to an early sushi lunch. I offer to bring the kids in an hour before the place opens to the public so that we are out of their hair before they open. To make things move faster you might want to pre-order the sushi or at least pre-order the rice and miso soup so that it is ready when you get there.

  2. Step 2

Ask the sushi chefs to have all of the sushi out on one big plate so that you can hand it out to the kids.

  3. Step 3

Have the kids use chopsticks to eat their rice and let them know it's OK to pick up the miso soup and drink it.

  4. Step 4

I have the kids eat the sushi in this order:
    Rice
    Miso soup
    Cucumber roll
    California roll
    Spicy tuna roll
    shrimp
    tuna
    salmon
    octopus!
    ice cream

  5. Step 5

Ask the owners or management for a discount, as you will be creating a lot of very loyal customers for years to come.
