Things You'll Need:

- hole saw
- utility knife
- screw drivers
- wood chisel
- new dead bolt
- strike plates
- bolt plates

Step 1
ridgid.comFirst determine the size of holesaw that you will need, then drill the hole. Stop drilling when the tip of the drill bit breaks through the door frame.

rona.caGo to the other side of the door and in the same location drill into the hole and cut through the door removing the rest of the waste material.

doityourself.comNext, drill the bolt hole through the edge of the door, using a spade bit.

hartvilletool.comNow push the bolt assembly into the bolt hole until the bolt plate is flat on the edge of the door. Trace around the plate with a sharp object, like a utility knife. Remove the bolt assembly and cut a 1/8" deep mortise in the edge of the door with a sharp chisel.

lowes.comOnce you have the complete fit, press the bolt plate back into the edge of the door. Attach it with two plate screws. Slide both sides of the lock into the plate mechanism. Attach with the screws that hold the two parts together.

rd.comWith long screws, driven through the jamb and deep into the wall studs, apply the strike-plate.
