Step 2
Select a Route - Now that you have decided where you are going to go, you need to select a route that will take you by all the great things that you want to see. Make sure that you have a map that you can utilize and is up to date with new roads and highways. Selecting a route to travel is one of the hardest things to do when road trip vacation planning.
-
Step 3
Map your way through - It’s a wise idea to trace your entire route on a map. Grab a few markers that are different colors to draw a line from your home to your location. Then another line from your location back to your home. This will allow you to change routes in between so you are not missing out on any of the great sights that may be passed up along the way.
-
Step 4
Ensure your vehicle is prepared - You are planning to go on a road trip, so you need to ensure that everything on your vehicle is properly working. It may deem you well if you brought your baby to a mechanic for a tune-up, this way you eliminate the threat of your vehicle breaking down while you’re traveling along the open road.
-
Step 5
Book hotel reservations - Since you are the one in control of the road trip; you have to be able to get rest along the way. It’s a great idea to plan ahead for your trip, by reserving yourself and your family rooms at hotels along the way. This way, you can still stay on your route that you mapped out, and get good night’s sleep along the way.
-
Step 6
Expect the worst - Pack for accidents that you may encounter on the road; be sure to pack food that is nonperishable, jumper cables for your vehicle, bottled water. And, of course extra supplies for your vehicle such as oil, antifreeze, and transmission fluid. It is better to be safe than sorry. As a guide it is not only your responsibility to keep yourself safe, but also the people who are with you.
-
Step 7
Take Frequent Stops - Do not try to drive all the way through from one destination to the next. You need to make frequent stops to get out and stretch your legs, and to prevent any potential driving dangers from fatigue. If you are tired, pull over and rest. It’s a lot easier to regain lost time then to drive and lose your life because of fatigue.
