How to Flatten Bottle Caps
Learning how to flatten bottle caps will allow you to use them in jewelry making, scrap booking and a variety of other crafts. Because bottle caps are relatively thick, using them in their original form can be difficult. Flattening bottle caps, however, can maintain the look and feel of the cap while making it significantly easier to work with. Choose from two different methods for flattening a bottle cap for use with your crafts.

Flatten Bottlecaps with Sizzix
-
1
Set up your converter plate on your Sizzix machine in preparation of flattening your bottle caps. The converter plate is the best plate to use when flattening bottle caps with a Sizzix machine.
-
2
Place between two and six caps in two separate rows on the converter plate, making sure that the smooth side of each bottle cap is facing upward.

-
3
Press the handle of the Sizzix machine down, and without having to use much strength you will have created as many as six nice flat bottle caps for scrapbooking or other crafting purposes. You can repeat this process as often as you need to create flattened bottle caps.
Flatten Bottlecaps with Hammer
-
4
Use a hammer or a rubber mallet to flatten bottle caps if you do not have a Sizzix machine or a converter plate. Make sure that you have a solid surface that you can place the bottle caps on, and hammer them one at a time.
-
5
Place a single bottle cap down on a solid surface. If you have an anvil or a chasing block, this will be easier. Soft surfaces like wood will dent from the cap as you use the hammer.
-
6
Hammer gently on the edges of the bottle cap in order to gently flatten it out without leaving any dents, scratches or odd marks in the metal. While bottle caps are relatively sturdy, their designs can become scratched or their smooth tops dented if you hammer too quickly or too hard on them.
