1
Write down the four most used colors in your room. Rank them in order of most-used to least-used. Choose either one of the two least-used colors as your accent wall color.
-
2
Choose a color from a painting or a fabric you've used in decorating your room. Ideally, you want it to be a color that stands out against the most-used colors in your room.

Choose a metallic paint as an accent. Many are available in shimmering gold, silver, copper, brass, chrome, or platinum. Painting an entire wall could be too much, but painting metallic colored stripes on one wall would be just enough to serve as an accent color. If you already have something metallic in your room, paint the stripes the same metallic shade. Or you can add new picture frames or plant containers in the same metal as you choose for the wall stripes.

Choose a lighter accent wall color to make a room seem bigger. If you want to make a room seem smaller and more intimate, paint one of the walls a dark accent color.
