It's easy to simply go out and buy a decorative lampshade, but decorating lampshades can allow you to add your own personal touch. Creating an original piece by incorporating silk roses onto a lampshade will add one-of-a-kind flair to your design scheme. You should use a fabric lampshade for this project, or else a material that you can sew through. While you could choose to glue your silk roses onto your lampshade, you'll want to make sure that the lamp doesn't get so hot that the glue melts and the roses fall off.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fabric lampshade
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Silk roses and ribbon in the desired colors
  1. Step 1

Sketch out your lampshade design on paper, or plan it out in your head. Your design can place small flowers at regular intervals, like a polka dot pattern, symmetrically or in repeating patterns like stripes. Or you can choose to randomly attach flowers however inspiration moves you. The main thing to remember is to not put so many flowers on your lampshade that too little light is able to emanate from the lamp.

  2. Step 2

Transfer your design onto your lampshade with pencil. Just lightly mark out points where you want to attach your flowers and ribbon.

  3. Step 3

Sew your ribbon onto your lampshade. You can use it as edging, or if the lampshade fabric allows, embroider it through the fabric to create leaves and stems. Tie a simple square knot into one end of your ribbon and embroider it through starting from the inside of your lampshade, drawing it to the outside, following your design.

  4. Step 4

Use your needle and thread to attach your roses according to your design. Knot the ends of your thread inside your lampshade to secure your flowers in place.

  5. Step 5

Place your lampshade back onto your lamp carefully so you do not disturb your design. Make sure that enough light can get through your design.
