How to Create a Newsletter in MS Word

Microsoft Word is the word processing program found in the MS Office suite. You can quickly create a newsletter using the program and its tools. Make just one newsletter or create a template that can be used over and over. Learn how to format the document into a standard newsletter and add text and graphics using this step-by-tutorial.

      Open Microsoft Word and click "File." Choose "New" to create a new Word document.

      Click the "File" tab and choose "Page Set-up." In Word 2007, click the "Page Layout" tab.

      Reset all of the page margins to .5 using the arrow keys. In Word 2007, click "Margins" in the "Page Setup" section and choose "Narrow."

      Type the newsletter's title on the top of the page or use "WordArt" to give the title a little style. Click "Insert" and choose "WordArt." Select a font style and click "OK." Drag the WordArt text box to the top of the newsletter and type the title inside of it.

      Add text boxes to the newsletter by clicking "Insert" and choosing "Text Box." Position the box in the newsletter and enter the text into the box.

      Click "Insert" and choose "Picture" to add pictures or graphics to the newsletter. Select "From my hard drive" to add a picture that is saved on your computer. Click "Insert" to add it to the newsletter. Choose "Clip Art" to add a graphic or drawing.

      Add a border to the newsletter by clicking the "Format" tab. Click "Add Borders and Shading" and choose "Page Border." Select a border style and line thickness and click "OK." In Word 2007, you will find the "Borders and Shading" option under the "Home" tab. Click on the "Border" icon in the "Paragraph" section and scroll down the options to "Borders and Shading."

      Click "File" and choose "Save As" to save your newsletter. Choose "Save as Word Template" if you want to reuse the document for future newsletters. Click "OK."
