Kitchen design software allows you to remodel on paper and is especially helpful when you have a large project planned. It is important for you to plan the appliances and cabinetry before you begin demolition in the room. With the kitchen design software, you will be able to understand how the new objects will fit together, and when the design is complete, you can print the information for your contractor.

    Things You'll Need

    • ALNO Kitchen Planner or SmartDraw

        Open the kitchen design software. There are several products available, such as ALNO Kitchen Planner and SmartDraw. ALNO is free to use, while SmartDraw is roughly $100.

        Set the dimensions of your kitchen. Use a measuring tape to obtain the exact measurements, or roughly estimate. In ALNO, click the "Room/Windows/Doors" link on the right side. Enter the width, depth and height of your kitchen.
        With SmartDraw, select a kitchen floor plan template, or choose a blank plan. Scroll through the different plans under "Floor Plans" and then "Basic" or "Kitchens."

        Add doors and windows. In ALNO, select the "Width" of the window. Then choose the style. Repeat for the doors. Then drag them to their position on the grid.
        In SmartDraw, scroll through the options under "Doors & Windows." Click on the object and position the item onto the grid.

        Insert cabinets. With ALNO, view the different wall units and cabinets by clicking on the title on the right side of the screen. Then choose the width of the object. Drag the cabinet over to place. To remove the unit, drag it off the grid.
        In SmartDraw, click the arrow under "Construction" and then the "More" link. Select the "Bookcases and Cabinet" option. Scroll through the list and click. Move over to the grid to place.

        Add appliances. In ALNO, click the "Sink," "Cooker" or "Special Article" link. Look through the options and drag to your grid.
        With SmartDraw, click the "Appliance" option. Choose from ovens, refrigerators and microwaves. Click on the object and place in the main grid.

        Save or print the kitchen design. In ALNO, you can view the kitchen in 3-D by pressing the "3D+Colours" button. To save, select "Planning" and then "Save." To print, click the "Print" button.
        With SmartDraw, select the disk icon to save. In addition, press the printer icon to print.

    • Explore all the options to create your specific kitchen design. A free trial of SmartDraw is available. However, some limitations are present.
