Go online to your state's official Web site. There should be a category that will have all different types of licenses you can apply for in your state. If you cannot find this section, enter "Licenses" in the search toolbar.

Find the license categories. There will be a section that has roof contractor licenses. Click on this link, and it will walk you through the necessary requirements to obtain your roofing contractor license.

Fill out your application online. If this is not possible, or the state does not have this option, make sure you can print out the full application. You must fill out your application completely and leave no blanks. Write "N/A" (not applicable) if a section does not apply to you.

List your experience and references. You can get additional working experience if your application requires more work experience than you have. You can do this through the local roofing union, and you can also make some good contacts/references when applying for your license.

You will need to pay your application fee. The quickest way to get a decision from the state on your license is by applying and paying your fee online with a bank or credit card. If filling out the application online and paying the fee is not an option, you will have to print out the application and mail the check to the address specified on the state's Web site.
