Yahoo! Web Hosting Subscription Page

Individuals wanting to make a Yahoo! Web page before April 23, 2009, usually chose Yahoo!'s free GeoCities Web host. But on that date, Yahoo! announced its intent to close GeoCities. To create a Yahoo! Web page now, you must purchase an account through Yahoo! Web Hosting. Although Yahoo! Web Hosting was originally designed to host commercial websites, you can also establish a personal page or site there.

Instructions

    • 1

Obtain a free Yahoo! account by clicking on the "Sign Up" button on the Yahoo.com page. Log into Yahoo! using that account.

    • 2

Go to the Yahoo! Web Hosting subscription page. Complete the sign-up process and authorize payment of the monthly fee.

    • 3

Download the current version of Yahoo!'s SiteBuilder. You can locate this software by clicking on the link to the SiteBuilder download page. Yahoo!'s SiteBuilder software allows you to create your Web page or site offline, then publish it to Yahoo! Web Hosting.

    • 4

Install Yahoo!'s SiteBuilder. Accept all default installation settings.

    • 5

Open SiteBuilder. Click "Create a New Site" from the left column of your SiteBuilder screen. A site-creation wizard will appear. Fill in your site's name and provide the file location where you want to store the files you will create. Click on the "Next" icon.

    • 6

Click on "Choose Template" when you asked whether you want to start with a blank page or a template. Pick the template you want from the resulting display. Click "Next."

    • 7

Choose any additional pages you want to create from the resulting list. You are not required to create additional pages at this time, so you can create a single Web page with SiteBuilder. You can add more pages later.

    • 8

Click "Next" after choosing the number of pages you want on your website. You will then be told you have created your website. Each Web page you have created will load in a new tab in SiteBuilder's workspace.

    • 9

Edit your pages, adding and changing text and images in your chosen template. Note that SiteBuilder uses text boxes to contain text elements, so use them when you add text. Save all changed pages to the computer location you identified in Step 5.

    • 10

Click the "Publish" icon. If you are already logged into your Yahoo! Web Hosting account, you will see an information box that includes your website's address. Click "Publish All Files" and all of your pages will be uploaded to your Yahoo! Web Hosting account.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you prefer to create your Yahoo! Web page while online, you can use Yahoo!'s Site Solution, which is Yahoo!'s online authoring tool.

  • Yahoo!'s SiteBuilder software is designed to work only with Yahoo! Web Hosting sites.
