How to Fight a Camera Traffic Ticket
Cameras are popping up at intersections everywhere to crack down on people who run red lights. Chances are good you might not even realize your car was caught by a red light camera until you receive a citation in the mail. But even at this seemingly late stage, there are ways to successfully beat a red light ticket.

1
Check the webpage of the court jurisdiction where you received the ticket to determine that it is in fact an actual ticket issued by the police. In some cases, the camera company will issue you a ticket, but that ticket isn't actually from the police and could be considered invalid. If the ticket says "Do not contact the court" anywhere on it, there is a good chance it isn't real.

2
Call the police and tell them you were not driving the car. This only works if the person pictured in the red light camera photo is obviously not you. Legally, you are not required to give the police the name of the driver of the car.

3
Make sure your ticket was filled out correctly. If some part of the information was left off or is incorrect, you could potentially have your ticket dismissed on a technicality.
-
4
Make sure the red light is clearly visible in the photo. If it is not visible, with your car clearly running it, you might be able to get the ticket dismissed.
-
5
Check the length of the yellow light at the intersection where you received your ticket. The duration of the light should be printed on your ticket. If your intersection actually has a shorter yellow light, you may be able to beat the ticket.
