Things You'll Need:

  • Self Control
  • Knowledge
  1. Step 1

The most effective way to avoid getting STDs is to remain abstinent. That means not having sex at all which includes vaginal, oral and anal sex.

  2. Step 2

If you are not being abstinent, then practicing safe sex is the next best thing. Use a condom during all sexual encounters. STDs can be transmitted from mouth to mouth, mouth to genital and even genital to gentital. Using a condom will help prevent the transmission of STDs. Contraceptics such as birth control will not prevent STDs.

  3. Step 3

After sex, carefully remove the condom without touch yourself or your partner. Discard of the condom and wash yourself thoroughly. Advise your partner to wash themselves as well.

  4. Step 4

Always disclose previous partners to raise awareness of the possibility of an STD. It is normal to seek professional advice from your doctor to determine if you have an STD.

Tips & Warnings
  • STDs can be transmitted from the male's testicles to the female. In this case, the condom will have prevented nothing.
  • Be careful not to touch the outside of the condom to your skin as the male. The female should not touch the inside of the condom to her skin.
  • Never have sex if you have any sores from an STD open or showing. These sores will make it easier to transmit an STD in either direction.
