Over one fifth of households in the United States purchase pre-mixed wild bird seed. This purchased wild bird seed mix is usually a very general combination of seeds that attracts less picky bird species, and doesn’t provide the best nutrition to the birds. However, if you specialize your wild bird seed mix for your region, you will attract a wider variety of birds, as well as provide them with more strength and energy to survive.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

  • Metal trash can
  • Black oil sunflower seeds

  1. Step 1

Place a large garbage bag in a metal trash can. This is what the wild bird seed will be mixed and stored in, and it will help prevent mice and other rodents from smelling the bird seed.

Seal the trash with a tight fitting lid after mixing. These seeds will be very attractive to all kinds of animals and insects. Ensure that no critters will be able get into the seed.
