Instructions

    • 1

Write everything you know about the subject for which you have to make a presentation. Break it down and categorize it into outline format, then write it in speech form. Go through and read it at the same rate you would give a speech. Time it.

    • 2

If this portion is ten minutes and you need to fill twenty minutes go back and add material to expand upon what you previously had written down. Time it in its entirety.

    • 3

What you need to accomplish for your presentation or speech is a system made up of "blocks" of time. If you prioritize and have four points at ten minutes each, then you could take questions and answers and have a 45 minute presentation. If you only needed to make a 20 minute presentation you could present only the first two "blocks" of the outline to equal the 20 minute speech.

    • 4

Once you have developed and prioritized your "blocks," you can commit them to memory and use only the ones necessary to fill the appropriate time you have to make a presentation. Usually it is best to make only three to four points. Judge for yourself how long each point or "block" is to develop the time for your presentation or speech.

Tips & Warnings

  • Prioritize your "blocks."

  • Be flexible on your time as circumstances may change and the 45 minute speech you were asked to give may turn into a 20 minute only speech.

  • Be prepared to cut some of your time or expand it based on circumstances. That is why having multiple "blocks" are so important. You can add or take away from them to make the presentation or speech you need to make.
