Things You'll Need:
- amp wiring kit
- various tools to take internal panels out (screwdrivers, alan keys, hex keys etc.)
- various wire connectors
- wire cutters and strippers
- electrical tape
- drill with various bits
- dremil for any modifications
-
Step 1
unhook your battery terminals to ensure you will not short anything out during the install and check around the area by the firewall for a hole leading into the cab of the vehicle. if one is not present you may have to drill your own hole to get this achieved. If you have to drill a hole make sure you put some kind of rubber grommet before running the wire through to prevent any of the metal edges to cut the wire during the life time of the audio system, then run the wire through the newly drilled hole and into the vehicles cab.
-
Step 2
Now that you have the power wire ran through the firewall you can start to removal the internal plastic panels leading to were you are going to install the amplifier usually in the truck area of the vehicle you will want to remove the panels from both sides of the vehicle this will be explained in a further step. now also remove the CD player for easy access to the wires you will need to hookup.
-
Step 3
Once all that is completed now you can start to run the wires needed to supply the amp with all the things needed to make your sound system sound the way you want it to. Hook the RCA's up to the either RCA outputs on the radio or the sub woofer out and run them through the dash to the opposite side of the vehicle then the power wire, if you don't do this there may be a chance that you might get some engine noise though out the sub woofers it don't happen all the time but better to be safe than have to do it all over again. Also hook your remote wire which is usually a think blue wire to the remote wire coming off the radio wiring harness and run out the dash don't matter what side this runs on would be at the installers preference.
-
Step 4
Now that those wires are ran from the back of the CD player and down out the back of the dash you can put the radio back in or keep it out for testing purposes after the final installation is complete. Run your wires to the desired location of the amplifier and hide them along the way putting internal pieces back on as you pass them.
-
Step 5
Once you get all your wires to the location of the amplifier which will be the Power wire, Remote wire and your RCA's then you can set your amplifier in were it going to be mounted and trim up any excess wire that you might have excluding the RCA's as they cant be trimmed. hook the power wire to the Positive connection on the amp (+) and the RCA will go into the input if you have multiple and the remote will get connected to the Rem(+) connection. Now its time for a ground locate a body bolt or something within 1 foot of the amp to connect your ground to if none are present you will have to drill and screw on in, also make sure you use some sandpaper around the area were the ground will be connected to ensure a good connection is made without any paint or anything around the area and the ground will connect to the Grnd or(-) connection on the amp.
-
Step 6
the final steps after everything is hooked up is to make sure all the connections are solid and nothing is touching anything on the amp connectors then its time to go back under the hood and hook up the power wire to the battery with the inline fuse protector, and then hook the battery back up to the vehicle. before powering the CD player make sure you go to the amplifier and turn your gains down all the way for the testing and tuning process, then power up the CD player and make sure all the lights have come on after being powered up there should be a green light on the amplifier that signals its powered and ready if the light is red that indicates that you may have a problem and need to look over your install. If everything checks out you can continue to the tuning process and enjoy your new sound system.
