Step 1
The first step is to gather some information. Search on the web to see what kind of expos in Japan you can participate, which stores carry products that might be related to your products, what magazines or trade newspapers would be interested to write about your products, etc... You can go to Japan External Trade Organization(JETRO)for some info and support.

Step 2
The easiest way to get into Japan market for the first timer would probably be to participate in one of the big expos that are held in Japan. If you sell jewelries, find information about Jewelry expo. If you sell cooking wares, find information about expos that are related to Cooking wares. If you participate there, both vendors and consumers will have a chance to look at your products. You might be offered a deal from vendors to sell your products at their stores. Consumers who bought and liked your products might spread your products by the word of mouth.

Step 3
If you have a whole line of products and want to seriously market those products in Japan for the first time, then, you can pick a good public relations company in Japan to help you out. Dentsu and Hakuhodo are two of the giant Ad agency that also does PR. However, if you are doing a small business, it is probably more efficient and effective to choose a small PR agency that would give you a more personal service. If you have no clue where to begin looking for a PR agency, you might want to contact Public Relations Society of Japan.

Step 4
Once you find a PR agency that's right for you, here are the things that you might want to ask them to consider doing. Making Japanese blog about your products (blogs are very big thing in Japan), making press releases, doing press interviews with appropriate media, ask the media to do product reviews, sending newsletters to appropriate stores and potential customers, etc...

Step 5
After you put your first step in Japan market, you can think of numerous creative ways to introduce your products.
