Get a Military Discount at Lowes & Home Depot

Every year both Home Depot and Lowes home improvement stores offer a 10% military discount on specific holidays to show gratitude for the sacrifices of our servicemen and women. It's a great opportunity to save a lot of money on DIY supplies or appliance purchases. Both stores rarely offer discounts or coupons, so any deal like this is worth taking advantage of!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Military ID
  1. Step 1

    Determine if You're Eligible:
All active duty members, National Guard and reserve personnel, retired military, as well as honorably discharged veterans and their immediate family members are eligible. Customers requesting the discount will need to show a valid military ID, dependent's ID or some other proof of service.

  2. Step 2

Plan to Shop on Certain Holidays:
Both Lowes and Home Depot offer the discount on Memorial Day weekend (May), July 4th, and Labor Day weekend (September). Typically the discount is active throughout the whole holiday weekend. See the "Tips" below for updates on specific dates.

  3. Step 3

    Once at the Store:
Gather the items you'd like to purchase and take them to any register. Ask for the discount and show your military ID. Most cashiers will be able to apply the discount immediately, but sometimes a manager might need to assist.

  4. Step 4

    Know the Limits:
Lowes usually offers the discount on a purchase up to $5000, for a $500 savings. Home Depot caps the offer at $2000, for a $200 discount.

Tips & Warnings
  • Dates for Memorial Day 2009: Lowes is offering the military discount starting Thursday, May 21st through Monday, May 25th. Home Depot's discount begins Thursday as well, but continues through Wednesday, May 27th
  • The military discount is only available in stores at the time of sale, not online or on previous purchases.
