In the quest to save money, many website owners turn to free website advertising. Unfortunately, many fail to get traffic with their methods. Learn what to avoid if you want to make money.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet connection
  • Computer
  • Word processing program
  1. Step 1

Do a search on any major search engine for free website directories. After amassing a list of several hundred, onto each. Doing this is definitely a "fail" in free website advertising. Most free website directories have low PR and are considered link farms by search engines. Including your site on them may actually hurt you.

  2. Step 2

Gather an e-mail list and send out an advertising e-mail to all of the people on this list. While e-mail advertising can be effective, if you do not personally gather the e-mail addresses from interested people who opt in to the emails, you are guilty of spamming. Also, the people on the list would not be targeted to your particular product or service.

  3. Step 3

Find all the forums and message boards that has anything to do with the topic of your website and post an introductory post highlighting the wonderful points of your business on each one. Then leave. This is also a form of spam and will not help you attract customers. If you want to advertise on forums, it is necessary to build up a relationship with the other people there.

  4. Step 4

Buy a free marketing or free advertising a book, and then buy another. After that, buy another one. A couple days later by yet another. Never do anything that is described in these books. Never take action and get started with free advertising for your website. The easiest way to fail with free advertising is to spend all your time gathering information and never getting around to taking action.
