How to Register an iPod Video

Registering an iPod Video has a number of benefits. For starters, your specific iPod with your specific serial number will be stored in Apple's computer databases for future reference. This can be considered proof of ownership if the unit is ever stolen or destroyed in a fire. Registering your iPod Video also gives you the benefit of giving Apple the ability to contact you with updates to your product. In the past you would have to fill out a form and mail it in, but now you can register your iPod Video online.

Instructions

1. Point your web browser to http://register.apple.com. You will be prompted to select a location and a language. Select where you live and the language you speak. When finished, click "Next."

2. Enter your Apple ID information into the box as prompted. This is the same login identification you use to gain access to the iTunes store. When finished, click "Next."

3. Select "iPod Video" from the list of products that appears. When finished, click "Next."

4. Enter your iPod Video's serial number into the box when prompted. This serial number can be found engraved onto the back of your iPod, and also under the system information when you plug your iPod into iTunes.

5. Click "Finish," once you have entered in all the information correctly, and your iPod Video will have been successfully registered in Apple's database.
