How to Make Icons Snap to Grid on a Mac

If the icons on the desktop of your Mac computer are cluttered or messy, you can neatly arrange them by implementing the "Snap to Grid" feature of the Finder. With "Snap to Grid" enabled, the Finder will automatically arrange all of your desktop icons in an evenly-spaced grid.

      Click anywhere on the desktop of your Mac computer to switch to the Finder.

      Go to the "View" menu at the top of the screen and select "View Options."

      Choose the "Snap to Grid" option from the "Arrange by" drop-down menu.

      Close the "View Options" window to save the settings. The Finder will now automatically arrange all of your desktop icons in to a grid format.

    Yes there is. Just look a little harder ;-). It says "arrange by" just like they said. It's right below "show icon preview".

    The correct way to do it is to press [Command]-J on with Finder active then you will see a popup where you can select "snap to grid" under "Arrange by."
