How to Compress a File on a Mac
With the latest version of Mac OS X, version 10.5 Leopard, Mac users can compress large files or folders right in the Finder application. Compressing a file puts the data into a .zip format, which shrinks the file size and can later be expanded on another computer. Compressing data is especially helpful if you need to e-mail large pictures or other files.
