Sometimes drilling anything less than a perfectly straight hole is unacceptable. It doesn't matter if you are drilling into wood, metal, or any other material. The most effective and dependable way to ensure that the hole is drilled straight is to use a drill bit jig, or a drill bit guide. There are many forms of drill bit jigs, but as long as you get from point A to point B, the vehicle that gets you there doesn't matter much.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the angle that the hole needs to be drilled and set the guide to that angle.

    • 2

Insert the desired drill bit size into the drill bit jig. Hook the drill up to the jig as well. Set the drilling depth gauge if you have to limit the depth the drill bit will plunge. This is useful when drilling holes for pocket screws, pilot holes, and doweling holes.

    • 3

Set the drill bit jig onto the material that needs a hole where the hole is desired and hold it firmly into place. Start the drill and complete the hole.

    • 4

Take the drill bit jig off of the material with the new hole and remove the drill and the drill bit from the jig.

    • 5

Clean the saw dust off of all tools before storing them so they are ready for the next job.
