Things You'll Need:
- Tree wood
- Sandpaper
- Carving knife
- Acrylic paint or varnish (optional)
-
Step 1
Walk through the woods and locate pieces of solid, round wood of varying lengths but between one inch and 1 1/2 inches in diameter.
-
Step 2
Round out the logs to the desired shape and texture using your carving knife and sandpaper. Leaving your Lincoln Logs with a slightly rough texture adds to the realism.
-
Step 3
Notch the logs on each end. The notch can be made with the carving knife in three cuts. A quarter inch deep and 1 and 1/2" on either side. Place one of these notches on each end of your log.
-
Step 4
Use craft sticks in conjunction with your homemade Lincoln Logs to construct roofs and floors. You can paint your finished logs with acrylic paint if you choose, or just use a wood varnish.
